How to Break In a New Glove

News

This is a question that is quite often asked.  We'll first start by what you shouldn't do to break in a new baseball glove.

Don't Oil It......This add weight to the glove, dries it out in the sun and makes the glove collect dirt.

Don't Dunk it in Water....Would you dunk a leather jacked in a bucket of water?

Don't Put it in the Oven...Would you put a leather jacket in the oven?

What you should do:

USE IT - best way to break in a glove is to use it as much as possible.

Shaving Cream with Lanolin - If you feel you need to do something you could put a little shaving cream with lanolin in the middle of the pocket and rub it in good.

Bend it, twist it, fold it - When sitting watching TV, put the glove on, twist it, move it around, massage it.  Hit the pocket (gently) with a baseball bat.

If it's a good quality leather glove it should break in relatively quickly.

Note to parents of young children:  Be sure the glove is leather.  There are a lot of gloves what look like leather but are fake.  They are plastically in feel and never really break in.  They are slippery and never form to your child's hand.
